Astrovid StellaCam EX

The Astrovid StellaCam EX is a highly sensitive video camera designed for deep-sky and planetary imaging. It features the lowest light video system available, with a 150% to 175% increase in sensitivity over the standard StellaCam. Utilizing Sony’s ExView 1/2″ monochrome 600-line Ceramic Dual Inline Package sensor, it achieves a 0.00005 LUX rating for deep-sky imaging and 0.005 LUX for planetary imaging at 1/60th of a second.

Exceptional Imaging Capabilities

Before the StellaCam EX, capturing deep-sky objects like nebulae and galaxies required an image intensifier. While no longer necessary, the StellaCam EX still performs exceptionally well with intensifying systems like the Collin’s I Cubed. It is widely used for deep-sky video imaging, CCD video finding, planetary, lunar, and solar imaging, as well as satellite and meteor imaging. Other applications include aurora photography, low-light security (bridges, tunnels), and biomedical fluorescence detection.

Clean Video Technology (CVT) for Noise-Free Imaging

The Clean Video Technology (CVT) ensures high-quality, noise-free images by carefully integrating critical components such as the power supply, camera head, remote cabling, control box, and video cables. Each unit undergoes a strict inspection and testing process before shipment to ensure top performance.

Remote Control Box for Convenient Adjustments

The remote control box allows adjustments without physically handling the telescope, with controls accessible from up to 300 feet away. This eliminates the need for tiny dip switches or screws and makes the camera ideal for observatories, schools, and research facilities. The control box supports both S-Video and Composite Video outputs and is shielded to prevent interference.

Simplified Remote Cable System

The remote cable system integrates video, control signals, and power in a single grounded and shielded cable, ensuring a clean and simple setup. This design prevents messy connections and tangled cables, which is especially useful in robotic or observatory setups where the imager may not be nearby.

Advanced 10-bit Image Processing

The StellaCam EX features a 10-bit CDS/AGC/AD converter, delivering superior gamma correction for enhanced grayscale representation and contrast. Most security CCD cameras use 9-bit DSPs, which lose significant grayscale detail in dark areas. The StellaCam EX’s 10-bit processing enhances image depth and clarity, providing four times more grayscale information than conventional cameras, resulting in brilliant, detailed images.
