FREE VIEWING NIGHTS
Thursday and Friday nights are viewing nights. Interested parties can come and look through a number of different telescopes at various different types of sky objects. Explanations of how the various telescopes work and what can be seen with the different sizes gives an idea the capabilities of each. The effects of different eyepieces used with each telescope is also demonstrated along with a basic introduction to the equatorial mount which is usually the most most difficult aspect of the telescope to understand. Visitors will also be shown how the different objects are located by using locally published books or by software programmes. Viewing nights may be cancelled due to poor weather of excessive clouds.

VIEWING DAYS
Visitors interested in buying optics like refractors, spotting scopes or binoculars for day time terrestrial viewing can look through the various types of instruments to get an idea of their various magnifications and fields of view. Also demonstrated during the day is projecting the Sun through a telescope so the Sun spots and eclipses can be viewed in safety (NEVER LOOK AT THE SUN THROUGH ANY TYPE OF OPTIC. IN FACT NEVER LOOK AT THE SUN AT ALL). There are ways to look at the Sun using filters, but these filters are specially made and cost hundreds of dollars.

BUILD YOUR OWN TELESCOPE FOR INDIVIDUALS

Build your own telescope for individuals and schools. Building a telescope yourself gives you the opportunity to produce a better quality instrument than you can buy in a shop. Modern materials and easy-to-follow instruction make it possible. Everything you will need is in the kit, including notes, diagrams and the mirror tester. No experience is needed with optics or mechaics. At the end you will have completed either a 150mm or 200mm Newtonian reflector with Dobsonian mount. These instruments are capable of seeing thousands of sky objects from your own back yard. Includes 'Hotline' support.

BUILD YOUR OWN TELESCOPE FOR SCHOOLS

The school kits are very educational where students will learn astronomy and associated sciences. The schools programme include a 'train the trainer' course in which the teacher retains the knowlegde and testing equipment to be used again. The aim of the course is for science and technical teachers to be able to teach the skills of parabolic mirror grinding testing and polishing, having completed their own mirror.
